WHAT WE OFFER

Rackley Kawana Squad Programs caters for all abilities and the focus is on developing each swimmer to reach their potential and love of the sport. Training sessions will provide swimmers with the skills and stamina needed to set their sights on competing at their chosen level be it Local, School, Masters or National level. Kawana Waters Swim Club and its coaching staff are supporters of Swimming QLD's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model the aim of the training model is to ensure that young athletes are introduced to certain types of training at the appropriate time. This is referred to as "critical periods of train-ability" and requires careful consideration and planning by our coaches.

The club not only accommodates those purely focused on swimming but also has a large number of water polo players, surf lifesaving competitors as well as triathletes that are members of the squads (with a number of the swimmers competing in both surf lifesaving and water polo).

OUR COACHES

Our experienced coaching team led by Damian Bawden (OLY) and Nathan Doyle brings both a high level of coaching expertise and dedication to all the swimmers.

OUR FACILITIES

The Kawana Aquatic centre boasts a ten-lane, 50-metre pool as well as a six-lane, 25-metre pool (in addition to its facilities for water polo and learn to swim programs) which are utilised for the training of each of the club's squads. Both pools are heated and covered during the winter months to provide year-round training.

JOIN THE CLUB!

At Rackley Kawana, we encourage Squad swimmers to join the swim club (Kawana Waters Swim Club) which enables swimmers to swim at our regular swim club nights as well as competing at local, Queensland and National Swim meets. Our club, being one of the largest swimming clubs on the Sunshine Coast, has enjoyed much success at local, State and National competitions. This includes finishing ninth in the nation from a team points perspective at the Age National Championships in 2015 and 2016 and tenth in the nation at the 2017 Championships.

Squads for all levels

Junior Squad
Junior Squad is a performance-based squad where swimmers will be coached through challenging aerobic, skill, and drill sets. The Junior Squad aims to increase the swimmer's knowledge and understanding of all four strokes, including the Individual Medley. Swimmers will also be specifically trained through general conditioning and specific drill progressions. The squad is designed to put the swimmer's technique and skill under stress to build on its foundations and strengthen their technique for racing. Swimmer’s race skills are also established as they progress through our competition structure.

Equipment required – flippers.
Bronze Squad
The Bronze Squad is designed for swimmers who wish to compete at a high standard at Regional or State level competitions. The squads are based on all four strokes and have a specific focus on the Individual Medley. The program will develop both aerobic and anaerobic systems, which is important for growing athletes. The Bronze Squad still has a large technique and kick focus building on the fundamentals established in the Junior Squad. Swimmers will continue training in all four strokes and will be required to meet the training standards as it is important for all swimmers to develop strong foundations in each of the strokes.
*Equipment required – flippers, paddles, pull buoy & kickboard.
Silver Squad
The Silver Squad is designed for swimmers who wish to compete at a high standard at State level competitions and aspire towards Age National Qualification. The squad is based on all four strokes and has a specific focus on the Individual Medley. The program will continue to advance the conditioning of both aerobic and anaerobic systems. Swimmers are required to meet advancing training standards and commitments as they begin to form a stronger link between training and performance during this stage of their development.
*Equipment required – flippers, paddles, pull buoy & kickboard.
Gold Squad
The Gold & Elite squads are a seasonally designed program aimed at the performance at Age National and Open / International competitive levels. The sessions are specifically designed to each swimmer's stroke and distance. The dry-land and pool sessions are personalised to the needs of the athlete for maximum achievement in their chosen events. These squads will give swimmers an opportunity to compete in the sprint, middle distance, and distance events.
*Equipment required – flippers, paddles, pull buoy, kickboard & snorkel.
Surf Squad
The Surf Squad is designed for senior multi-sport athletes. It targets the specific endurance and speed requirements of the athlete’s primary sport and event. This squad trains with our Gold/Elite Squads in the mornings and therefore requires a high level of fitness and commitment.
